NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A career-best stretch of basketball for DeMarcus Cousins has earned him his first COMO Player of the Month award. Chaska's versatile big man averaged 34.00 bones over 15 starts in January. The Moose (47-21) are currently four games behind Duval United in their quest for a third straight regular season championship. Up in Minneapolis, Karl-Anthony Towns is doing his best to keep the Player Haterzz in the playoff field. Currently tied for the No. 7 seed at 28-40, Minneapolis has received a big boost from Towns, who put up 25.88 bones per game over 16 starts in January.

SHOREWOOD, Minn. — Where would the Shorewood Show be without Stephen Curry? The All-COMO point guard helped the Show win their first championship in April 2014 after getting shipped from Newport Beach at the trade deadline. Earlier this year, he was the COMO Finals MVP. Now, he's leading the league in bones (34.32 / 19 starts) while keeping the Show afloat at 14-10. Shorewood has taken a step back this season while trying to sort out its eight-man lineup. Bigs LaMarcus Aldride and Pau Gasol are not the players they were last season, and a promising core of young players has taken longer to develop than planned. But the Show have quite the X-factor. "I've never seen anything like it," GM Alex Smith said after Shorewood's 2-0 weekend. "He's the most unique player since Jordan, and the fine people of Hennepin County get a close look at him every few nights at Big Reggie's Danceland. Basketball fans around here are living a dream right now." NASHVILLE -- The commissioner's office released the retroactive winners of the Player of the Month/Rookie of the Month awards on Monday morning.
Here are the results: COMO Player of the Month (October/November): Anthony Davis, Hollywood (15 starts, 37.53 average) COMO Player of the Month (December): James Harden, Colorado (14 starts, 33.43 average) COMO Player of the Month (January): Anthony Davis, Hollywood (10 starts, 34.70 average) COMO Player of the Month (February/March): James Harden, Colorado (14 starts, 30.79 average) COMO Rookie of the Month (October/November): Jabari Parker, Rio (7 starts, 15.86 average) COMO Rookie of the Month (December): Jabari Parker, Rio (3 starts, 14.67 average) COMO Rookie of the Month (January): Andrew Wiggins, Hollywood (7 starts, 16.71 average) COMO Rookie of the Month (February/March): Langston Galloway, Newport Beach (8 starts, 13.75 average) The league will announce the MVP and Rookie of the Year on Tuesday, with All-COMO teams coming Wednesday. COLUMBIA, Mo. — Kevin Love and Michael Carter-Williams were named February/March Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month, respectively.
Love averaged 35.29 bones in 17 starts for Chaska, the COMO regular season champions. Carter-Williams won his fourth straight ROM, and is essentially a shoe-in for Rookie of the Year. He averaged 14.73 bones in 15 starts for Minnesnowta. League award schedule: Monday, March 24 — League MVP / Rookie of the Year Tuesday, March 25 — All-COMO teams (1st, 2nd) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This one was obvious.
Kevin Durant accounted for four straight Player of the Week awards in the month of January, making him the easy selection for Player of the Month. His stretch included 16 games with an average of 38.44 bones. To put that in perspective, only a couple players have been able to maintain such an average over the course of a single week this season. "Your tape is your resume," general manager Matthew Fairburn said. Indeed. MINNEAPOLIS — We've hardly heard a peep from the media about the third-place Player Haterzz this season. Maybe it's karmic retribution for the team's namesake. Maybe it's just irony.
But the spotlight is now firmly on Minneapolis thanks to stud forward LeBron James (30.0 COMO points per game in 16 starts), who claimed the inaugural COMO Player of the Month award for October/November. "It's nice having the best player on the planet," owner Dan Renfro said in a written statement Monday. "Worth every penny." James, of course, has the highest salary in the league ($52 million). However, he has not claimed any of the seven COMO Player of the Week awards. In fact, if Hollywood and Chaska had not screwed up their lineups just one less time, James likely would've lost out to Chris Paul (30.13 in 15 starts) or Kevin Love (30.53 in 15 starts). "It's cute that some folks get worked up over weekly awards," Renfro said. "The Player Haterzz are in it for the long haul, and the COMO title is the only thing we worry about. It's also nice that of the two teams I think could beat us... one is five years late to greatness, and the other is run by Isaiah Thomas." Jabs at other teams aside, Renfro once again pointed fingers at the media. "We'll get the press when it matters," he said. "As the COMO league trophy is hoisted high over our championship heads." |
